Info Touch Technologies Unveils Wireless Strategy
- Leveraging content into the wireless space -
BURNABY, BC, April 4th, 2002

Burnaby, BC, April 4, 2002 - Info Touch Technologies Corp., the world's premiere clicks and mortar solution provider, (IFT: CDNX) is pleased to announce the unveiling of its widely anticipated wireless strategy. The core strategy is comprised of utilizing the Internet Kiosk as a gateway or hub to broadcast high speed wireless data to a myriad of digital devices, including laptops, tablet PCs, cellular phones, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) such as PocketPCs, PalmPilots, etc…
The kiosk and wireless strategy offers an increasing array of benefits with practical real world applications that extend to secure e-commerce transactions, electronic couponing, bill payment, transmitting marketing and promotional messages, and instant e-mail access via digital devices.
Specifically the Surfnet kiosk now acts as a "base station" to power wireless applications in order to:
- Dispense information on a metered access, subscription or per transaction basis
- Provide retailers, financial institutions and other commercial or government organizations the ability to provide multi-purpose access and coverage to "always available" digital content increasing the opportunity for multiple transactions.
The wireless protocol most conducive to a retail or commercial environment and that is attracting the most interest with consumers is 802.11b or Wi-Fi, mainly because of its low barriers to entry (ie. cost, installation, maintenance, etc…). Recent difficulties caused by the economic slowdown as well as the enormous third-generation, or 3G, wireless license fees have resulted in Wi-Fi's increased success in deploying networks and acquiring wireless customers over 3G. Other protocols that are receiving interest are infrared and Bluetooth.
"Wireless is now a core component in every client proposal" said Hamed Shahbazi, Chairman and CEO of Info Touch, "and is being heavily investigated across all of Info Touch's lines of business and focused horizontally across all areas of Info Touch industry focus (i.e. Retail, Financial Services, Telecom and Government)."
Info Touch management also strongly believes that wireless value proposition also strengthens a key and emerging Info Touch advantage, CMMI. Info Touch's wholly owned media agency now develops universal content offerings and monetization campaigns that consider both wired and wireless access modalities.
Currently there are approximately 3,700 such Wi-Fi enabled public access hotspots in the U.S located in places such as airports, malls and hotels. This number is expected to grow to 41,000 by 2007, according to the report and the access will generate approx. $3 billion in revenue. (Public Wireless LAN Access: U.S. Market Forecasts 2002-2007).
